Rote Island & Nemberala

Freedive Rote is located right on the shores of Nemberala Beach, in the village of Oenggaut on Rote Island.

Rote lies at the southern edge of Indonesia, known for its pristine beaches, world-class surf, beautiful reefs and abundant marine life.

It is a place where life still moves at a slower pace, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Bali.

Our school

Our school sits directly on the beach, with our training taking place in a beachside shala.

Water sessions begin in the calm, shallow lagoon before progressing behind the waves for deeper water sessions as students develop their skills and confidence.

Beyond the waves

Discover Rote

Rote is still something of a hidden gem. While the island is famous among surfers for Besialu / T-Land, the long left hander that draws surfers from around the world during the main surf season from June to September, there is much more to Rote than its waves.

The island offers a chance to slow down and experience a simpler way of life. Explore quiet beaches and coral reefs, paddle through mangrove lagoons, discover traditional Ikat weaving, encounter the island’s famous wild horses, or simply enjoy the small collection of cafes and restaurants around Nemberala.

Goats wander through the villages, while the landscape shifts between dry savannah and palm fringed coastal areas.

Oh, and the sunsets over the ocean are spectacular!

Freedive Rote

With direct beach access, calm sheltered water and a peaceful environment, Freedive Rote is an ideal place to learn, slow down and connect with the ocean.

Whether you are here to learn freediving, improve your surf survival skills, explore the reefs or simply spend some time in the water, Rote offers the space to breathe, reset and reconnect.
